A new idea, directed to serve a forgotten society, living among us, but their silence rendered them unnoticed, The Deaf !!
We thought about helping that society, so as a first step to get to know them, we began to learn their language, sign language. And courses on basic sign language were held in campus, in coordination with “Resala” NGO, which provided us with a professional trainer and the chance to get in contact with the deaf on several social occasions.
Two courses, 6 sessions each, were held in March and August 2007, a sum of 80 medical students attended these courses to be the first generation of medical students who have no problem communicating with the deaf, and hence can provide them with the health care they deserve but have been deprived off due to lack of communication….
So this was just the beginning, and there’s still a lot to be done, and in time we shall really “Break the Silence” …. So wait for our updates.
